About Heartwood Nuclear Engineering

Heartwood was founded by nuclear engineers who came up through utility nuclear engineering organizations and prior NRC technical staff roles. The firm exists to do the work that operating engineers and licensing organizations want done by people who have been in those organizations themselves.

How we staff

Programs are led by senior practice leads. The lead is on the program from kickoff through closeout. We do not staff junior engineers as program leads.

Independence

We hold no commercial relationships with reactor vendors, fuel vendors, or owner-operator firms. Our recommendations on design or operating choices are not influenced by reseller arrangements.

Compliance

Heartwood operates under documented quality assurance procedures aligned with NQA-1 where engagement scope requires it. Sensitive plant data is handled in our segregated environment with credentialed per-engagement access. We do not transmit safeguards information outside the United States.

Hiring

Open positions, when they exist, are posted on our careers page. We hire infrequently and only at senior practitioner levels.
